It was funny hearing Mum say the grown-up name, Damson, out loud. I guess one day I'll be an adult ad be P Damson and all smart and rich and everything. I think maybe I'll be a Space-age lawyer in City One, or, even better still, Captain of the Marie-Cloud, i bet, with tons of gorgeous men after me.
Dad let that B*****D into our house again and was fawning all over him. I hope he notices our new holo-pool is more offworld than his. I'll say this for the other continent, they may have the foulest weather system on the planet but they make nice pools. When its not raining, its snowing. Yes, snowing, like you see in the documentaries. If that’s the New Frontier, I don’t see why anyone wd want to go there-unless it’s for the pleasure of a sail on the Maire-Cloud, of course. Big Bro says people aren’t so freaked out about the gene thing Overseas. The Atusumisi Heritage Clan haven’t worked their ‘magic’ over there so much. Overseas, they’ve got this thing called the O-HA, some humanitarian thing that sends stuff to us – water mainly. O-HA are totally Pro-Peace. They totally get my vote then: Hello O-HA!! Fancy a trip over here to sort out civilization? Starting in City Five if you please!
But there’s not way I’m going there, I have amibitions, yes, and World domination is almost within my grasp, but why would I want to move and change this wonderful life? OK, OK, there are a couple of adjustments I’d make to my life (like disposing of parents, head teachers & the B*****D) but apart from that, I got it good!
Sassy B called me. Big changes. It’s scary. I can’t believe this is happening. What’s WRONG with our government? Why doesn’t General Saint-Antel do anything? I’ve started an amial letter campaign about it already. Basically, Sassy B’s mum has to go to City One to work on one of the irrigation projects. They’re going to pay for the relocation, which is good, but the whole family has to go, which is BAD. That’s neighbourliness for you. I hate our governement.
They went today and Sassy B got to go on the Marie-Cloud before me. There was no need to cry. Actually, I was pretty sad watching her go. That beautiful ship - all the way to City One. Things are great here, apart from the drought right now (and the Heritage Clan fruit-loops). When I’m grown-up I’ll go there at warp-speed, just try & stop me.
A couple more kids from our year are leaving for City One. Unfair! They’ll miss the big test on early Colonial science – yawnarama. Who care how they propagated the first crops or set up synthetic factories?
Y Bretton says everyone will get one of those gene stamps. There is no way I am having MY colours co-ordinated by the governement. I hate blue, for starters – doesn’t go with my bonny brown eyes! I’m not having red either, like Ant Li. & as for green, that wd mean being Galrezi, & let’s face it, I cd never be so unpopular.
It’s not the same without Sassy B. she was my best friend. She really was. She didn’t want to go, & her mum and dad made her. I mean, I WAS jealous & all that, but I’m not anymore. What’s the point of moving if you leave your best friend behind?
That Thing with You Know Who is so OVER. I don’t know what it is about him. He’s just so smug now, like all the Linveki family are personal friends o the first Colonial to set foot on this planet. Since when did they have the right to get to pompous? We’re all descended from the first batch aren’t we?
OK, so me & Mum are not talking right now. She won’t let me have my nose pierced: says it’s common. What’s the big deal? Everyone’s up in the air about the gene thing & the City One drought, & all she can worry about is if her daughter has too much metal in her flesh. Mum said I shdn’t get all hung up on physical stuff when I told her I think I like strong men. I told her it was natural. Boy did she turn on me then - read me te riot act about what’s ‘natural’ and what’s not. She’s got a real thing about the whole multi-ethnicity issue. Says we shdn’t discriminate against anyone. Except people poorer than us, of course: we’re loaded, so that’s discrimination isn’t it? I don’t care anyway. I like having money. Maybe I cd give some away.
Big stink at school today. I emailed Dad about it & he freaked & wrote that maybe I shd go off to the girls’ boarding school in City Three instead. I’d rather die! Cooped up with a blockful of bad girls, in that dire school uniform. I mailed Dad Right Back & rest assured I’m staying here at Saint-Antel’s School for the Terminally Bored.
Nothing much happening. Dyed my hair red. Now everyone wants to. What it is to be popluar.
I had the cutest two-piece cozzie – Cimarron Yellow – with a gold hoop in my belly. A nose ring wd’ve completeled the look, but I had to make do with rows of studs in my ears.
